Ingredients for Green Beans Omelet

green beans and eggs

1. French Green Beans

Beans come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. For this recipe, French green beans are used. These delicate beans are very thin and they come in green and yellow varieties. The green ones are preferred because they contrast beautifully with the eggs.

If French green beans are unavailable, green beans, also called string beans and snap beans can be used instead. These beans appear long and rounded. Sometimes they may still have a fibrous “string” running down their sides, and it needs to be removed before cooking by simply pulling it along the length of the bean.

2. Eggs

Any kind of large eggs can be used. White, brown, free-run, free-range, organic, and omega-3 eggs are all good depending on personal preference.

Tips for Green Beans Omelet

1. French green beans have a delicate texture so they just need to be blanched quickly in boiling water to soften. Plunge blanched beans immediately into cold water to maintain the crunchiness by stopping the cooking process. Remember these beans will be cooked further with the eggs.

2. If green beans are used instead, blanch them for a slightly longer time because their texture is not as delicate as French green beans.

3. Use a 10-inch frying pan to produce a thicker omelet that has a slightly crispy crust but still fluffy on the inside. This consistency is harder to achieve when using a large frying pan because the egg mixture will spread out too much and the omelet will be thin.

4. Add diced Chinese BBQ pork to this recipe and transform this vegetarian dish into a new favorite for meat lovers.
